It started with a lingering idea from King Prawn guitarist Hans Deville to record an EP of “punk twang”. We asked Hastings singer Andrew J Davies to throw some “Lee Hazlewood” vibes on a track or two. The results blew our minds. Why release an EP when you can release AN ALBUM? Why go digital when you can put it on a SLAB OF VINYL !! “Prophecies Of The Lost” IS OUT NOW (download free here).
That’s where the story starts….
Andrew J Davies own band Frank From Blue Velvet went through a creative burst. Originally formed to entertain the pub crowds with “dark country” covers, the band switched direction when their own compositions were going down a storm too. Described as if “Johnny Cash slipped down a worm hole and landed on stage with a post punk garage band”. An EP “Sins Without Redemption” has just been released and a full album due next year.
Mark J Lee & The Saddle Kings
Along the way we bumped into new Hastings citizen, Mark J Lee. Already established in the UK Americana scene, he had some ideas in motion. A very quick turnaround of the “Vagabond Blood” single made a splash. “A Honky Tonk Noir Stunner” (Texan Chronicles), it paved the way for album recordings to start.
We LOVE an album by the way.
The family extended in an unforseen way when Hans Deville got chatting with Daemönik Fonce who rehearsed in the studio next door to his stained glass workshop. We loved their “punk-psyche-glam” heavy thinking vibes and that adventure has just started. First single “Autumnal Fix” was released September 1st with Adam Walton BBC Introducing describing them as “ABBA meets Suicide”.. which we will definitely take. Second single “Gamechanger”, a Pistolesque swagger of a song has just dropped.
Daemönik Fonce
As lock down lifted it was time for us to bite the bullet and GO LIVE! The first label showcase happened in Hastings at our spiritual home The Jenny Lind. Frank From Blue Velvet and Mark J Lee & The Saddle Kings answered the call and played, to our joy (and relief), a packed out venue.
December 4th, sees us take the showcase to London. Hackney’s Paper Dress Vintage will be the setting for an ecclectic night of psyche-punk-twang-honky-tonk-noir. Mark J Lee and The Saddle Kings will be dropping some troubador country vibes, debut show from the ska-punk axeman Hans Deville with full band, showcasing his album “Prophecies Of The Lost”. Expect marintine folk, distorted western and stoner rockouts. We are very excited to welcome the swaggering glam-psyche monster that is Daemönik Fonce. This will be first their post lock down show, and we’ll be at the front in drooling anticipation. If you want a gig where every band sounds the same. Best avoid this one, as we will be giving the Alt.Punk.Country cauldrun a good stirring.
