HOWLIN’ GRASSMAN Vs STOMPIN’ BIGFOOT

LP / CD

Released in UK via Property of the Lost Records

MAILORDER ONLY 15th OCTOBER 2025

I first got to find Howlin’ Grassman Vs Stompin’ Bigfoot down a You Tube wormhole with the exquisitely twisted “I Know You Don’t Love Me” - A relentless percussive beat with a filthy guitar lick fronting an anthem for jilted lovers everywhere.. All topped with an insanely cool video. PLEASE check it HERE. Then began an irregular email exchange and a few failed attempts to bring them to the UK. Then in the summer of ‘25 I got the message. “We’ve recorded our second album, you want to release it in UK?” So, in collaboration with France’s Teenage Hate Records, Property of the Lost is proud to help spread the words and riffs of Grassman & Bigfoot..

“The Wild One of The Wood is Back in The City” is the Brittany Duo’s second album.. It’s got the blues stomp over hauled with a discordant Fugazi edged guitar riffage, the lyrics and vocal delivery are from the Fuck You school of songwriting.. But this ain’t generic . There’s a subtle nod to the kraut electronica here too.. Check the almost relentless grind of the SUICIDE flavored “Fuck It’s Monday”.. Not destined to be a radio hit any day soon BUT really should be..

I caught up with Etienne (Grassman) for a bit more background to the band …

Hey, where are you right now?

In Plougastel-Daoulas, a little town near Brest, by the sea.

What’s it like living in Brittany?

I guess it's a little bit like living in Cornwall, isolated and under the rain .

How did you guys get together?  Give us some history?

We started as an acoustic band ten years ago. We wanted to play old time blues, so we invented nicknames that sound like the heroes of this music. We were offered a gig in a bar, but only on the condition that we played electrified. So we came up with the idea of a "two-men" one -man band setup , a much louder and repetitive version. But we met a long time ago and we have often played together in different ephemeral bands. This is the second album. We have a special guest for a few tracks of this album: the saxophone player Florent Manneveau.

How is it you sing in English?

It was a natural choice for us for this type of sound.  We are listening to much more music with english lyrics than with french lyrics and finally it's more natural for us to sing in english even if we're not fluent in this language. That should be a funny thing for you, we hope you like our french accent !
