It’s got the post-punk bleakness of Joy Division combined with the outsider poetry of Leonard Cohen.

“Paraphrasing a Mike Tyson quote the band turn it to an existential quagmire. ‘Everyone’s got a plan (until their face gets punched)’taps into lives of shattered dreams, love affairs never to be started and life trapped in a small northern town. With drifting harmonies and guitar chords like paper-cuts the song swoons to it’s counterpoint ending. Frank From Blue Velvet formed in 2019 when a dark country singer met a former drummer with punk band Peter and the Test Tube Babies.  They played a few parties and soon after, the singers daughter, Ruby Lyons joined on bass.

The core of the band are Andrew J Davies – vocals, guitar / Og’s – drums / Karen Davies – vocals, percussion / Ruby Lyons – Bass.  However, the live experience features banjo, harmonica and extra guitars.  Described as “If Johnny Cash went down a worm hole and dropped on stage fronting a post punk garage band.”

Despite the lyrics dealing with frailty of the human condition and the devils and angels sitting on everyone’s shoulders, live shows are anarchic, joyous affairs and it’s hard to leave without a smile on your face.

The “Sin Without Redemption” EP was released November 2021.  “The Apocalypse Nears” and “Snakepreacher” singles were released May and August 2022.
