We caught up with Etienne (Grassman) to get some history…

Hey, where are you right now?

In Plougastel-Daoulas, a little town near Brest, by the sea.

What’s it like living in Brittany?

I guess it's a little bit like living in Cornwall, isolated and under the rain .

How did you guys get together?  Give us some history?

We started as an acoustic band ten years ago. We wanted to play old time blues, so we invented nicknames that sound like the heroes of this music. We were offered a gig in a bar, but only on the condition that we played electrified. So we came up with the idea of a "two-men" one -man band setup , a much louder and repetitive version.  But we met a long time ago and we have often played together in different ephemeral bands. This is the second album. (The band self released Open the Cage, a five track EP in 2017 and then the self titled debut in 2022 on Beast Records – Ed) We have a special guest for a few tracks of this album: the saxophone player Florent Manneveau.

I (Etienne) played for a long time in a band called Electric Bazar Cie. A rock band influenced by Balkan music , we toured all over Europe. Plus I’m the guitarist of a street theater company call "Xav to yilo"

Lionel played in lot of different bands from jazz to punk. Plus currently  playing for Kraffft , an instrumental outfit influenced by traditional music of Eastern Europe , surf rock and old film music.

How is it you sing in English?

It was a natural choice for us for this type of sound.  We are listening to much more music with English lyrics than with French lyrics and finally it's more natural for us to sing in English even if we're not fluent in this language. That should be a funny thing for you, we hope you like our French accent!

The new album sounds HEAVY, where did you record it?

The album was recorded by Paul Le Galle . He is a talented musician (check out his band "Le Mamooth" ) and sound engineer. He had also recorded our first album and sometimes he's our sound man in concert. We've made a first session in Brest at "La Carène" , a music venue with rehearsal studios and a place to record. And we made another session in Paule (not Paul), a little village in Brittany, at "l'eldorado" , a studio (in an old ballroom) and a bar.
